Ingredients

  • Flattened rice (Chura) - 100 grams
  • Split yellow moong dal - 50 grams
  • Ghee - 2 tablespoons
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Chopped green chilies - 1 teaspoon
  • Grated ginger - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - 300 milliliters
  • Chopped coriander leaves - for garnish
  • Roasted peanuts - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Rinse the flattened rice (Chura) under cold water until it softens, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a pan, dry roast the split yellow moong dal for about 3-4 minutes until it turns slightly golden, then set aside.
  3. In the same pan, heat ghee over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, allowing them to splutter.
  4. Add chopped green chilies and grated ginger, sautéing for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Add the roasted moong dal to the pan, followed by the softened flattened rice.
  6. Pour in 300 milliliters of water and salt to taste. Stir well and cook on low heat for 10-12 minutes, until the dal is soft and the mixture is well combined.
  7. Once cooked, remove from heat and let it rest for a couple of minutes.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with chopped coriander leaves and roasted peanuts.
