- Flattened rice (chura) - 1 cup
- Split yellow lentils (moong dal) - 1/2 cup
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Green chili - 1, slit
- Ginger - 1 tsp, grated
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Mustard oil - 2 tbsp
- Salt - to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish
- Water - 2 cups
Steps
- Rinse the split yellow lentils (moong dal) under running water until the water runs clear, then soak them in water for about 15 minutes.
- In a pan, heat the mustard oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add the chopped onions and green chili to the pan, sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
- Stir in the grated ginger and turmeric powder, cooking for another minute until fragrant.
- Drain the soaked lentils and add them to the pan, followed by 2 cups of water and salt. Bring it to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pan, cooking for about 10 minutes until the lentils are soft.
- Add the flattened rice (chura) to the pan, mixing well to combine with the lentils and spices. Cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat, garnish with fresh coriander leaves, and serve hot.
