Ingredients

  • Flattened rice (Chura) - 100 grams
  • Mustard oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chilies - 2, chopped
  • Ginger - 1 inch, grated
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Potato - 1 small, diced
  • Peas - 50 grams, fresh or frozen
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish

Steps

  1. In a bowl, soak the flattened rice (Chura) in water for about 5 minutes, then drain and set aside.
  2. Heat mustard oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add chopped green chilies and grated ginger to the pan, sautéing for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until it turns translucent.
  5. Incorporate the diced potato and peas into the mixture, along with turmeric powder and salt. Stir well and cover the pan.
  6. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the potatoes are tender, stirring occasionally.
  7. Once the potatoes are cooked, add the soaked and drained flattened rice to the pan. Mix everything well and cook for another 2-3 minutes to combine the flavors.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
