Ingredients

  • Flattened rice (Chura) - 100 grams
  • Fish fillets (Basa or similar) - 200 grams
  • Rice flour - 50 grams
  • Chickpea flour (Besan) - 30 grams
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil (for frying) - 200 ml
  • Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish
  • Green chilies - 1, chopped (optional)

Steps

  1. In a bowl, marinate the fish fillets with ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala, lemon juice, and salt. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
  2. While the fish is marinating, rinse the flattened rice in water and soak it for about 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix rice flour and chickpea flour. Add a little salt and water to make a thick batter.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Dip each marinated fish fillet in the batter, ensuring it’s well-coated.
  5. Carefully place the battered fish in the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes on each side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. To serve, take a plate and spread the soaked flattened rice, top it with the fried fish fillets. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and green chilies, if using.
  7. Serve hot, enjoying the crunch of chura with the flavor-packed fish.
