Ingredients
- Flattened rice (Chura) - 100 grams
- Black lentils (Urad dal) - 100 grams
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Tomato - 1 medium, pureed
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 teaspoon
- Cream - 2 tablespoons
- Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves - for garnish
- Water - 4 cups
Steps
- Rinse the black lentils thoroughly and soak them in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- In a pressure cooker, add the soaked lentils and 4 cups of water. Cook for about 20-25 minutes until soft. Release the pressure and set aside.
- In a pan, heat the butter over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown. Then, add ginger-garlic paste and cook for another minute.
- Stir in the pureed tomato, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates from the mixture.
- Add the cooked lentils to the pan. Mix well and let it simmer for 10 minutes, adding water if needed for desired consistency.
- Stir in the cream and garam masala. Cook for another 5 minutes and adjust seasoning as necessary.
- In a separate bowl, soak the flattened rice in warm water for about 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- To serve, layer the chura on a plate and top it with dal makhani. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
