  • Water - 1/2 cup (for soaking lentils)
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chilies - 1-2, finely chopped
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves - a handful, chopped

Steps

  1. Soak the split yellow lentils in water for at least 30 minutes and then drain.

  3. Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they are golden brown.
  4. Stir in the grated ginger and chopped green chilies, and sauté for another minute.
