- Water - 2 cups
- Ghee (clarified butter) - 2 tablespoons
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Green chili - 1, slit
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Asafoetida (hing) - a pinch
Steps
- Rinse the moong dal under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for about 15 minutes.
- In a pot, heat ghee over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds, allowing them to splutter.
- Add the grated ginger and slit green chili, sautéing for a minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the soaked and drained moong dal, turmeric powder, and salt. Sauté for 2-3 minutes.
- Add 2 cups of water to the pot and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the dal is soft.
- While the dal is cooking, rinse the flattened rice (chura) in cold water and let it sit for 5 minutes to soften.
- Once the dal is cooked, gently fold in the softened chura and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until heated through.
- Remove from heat, garnish with chopped coriander leaves, and serve hot.
