- Flattened rice (chura) - 1 cup
- Chana dal (split chickpeas) - 1/2 cup
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped
- Ginger - 1 inch, grated
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Fresh coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Rinse the chana dal under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 2 hours.
- Drain the soaked chana dal and boil it in fresh water for about 10-15 minutes until tender but not mushy. Drain and set aside.
- In a pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Stir in the grated ginger and green chili, and sauté for another minute.
- Add the boiled chana dal, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine the flattened rice (chura) with the spiced chana dal mixture and toss gently until evenly mixed.
- Finish with fresh coriander leaves and drizzle with lemon juice before serving.
