Ingredients

  • Bhindi (okra) - 150 grams, finely chopped
  • Whole wheat flour - 200 grams
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
  • Water - as needed for dough
  • Oil - for cooking

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt. Add enough water to knead into a smooth dough. Cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, mix the chopped bhindi, onion, green chili, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, and red chili powder.
  3. Divide the dough into equal portions (about 4 pieces). Roll each piece into a small ball.
  4. Take one dough ball, flatten it slightly, and place a spoonful of the bhindi mixture in the center. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling to seal it.
  5. Gently roll the filled dough ball into a flat, round roti, dusting with flour to prevent sticking.
  6. Heat a skillet or tawa over medium heat. Cook the roti for about 2-3 minutes on each side, brushing with a little oil until golden brown.
  7. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling. Serve hot with chutney or your favorite side dish.
