Ingredients

  • Okra - 200 grams
  • Whole wheat burger buns - 2 units
  • Chickpea flour (besan) - 4 tablespoons
  • Rice flour - 2 tablespoons
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon (to taste)
  • Water - 1/4 cup
  • Oil - for frying
  • Lettuce leaves - 2 units
  • Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
  • Onion - 1 small, sliced
  • Coriander chutney - 4 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Wash and dry the okra, then slice them into thin pieces.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine chickpea flour, rice flour, turmeric powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt.
  3. Gradually add water to the dry mixture until you achieve a smooth batter.
  4. Coat the sliced okra in the batter until well covered.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the coated okra in batches and fry until crispy and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. While the okra is frying, lightly toast the burger buns on a separate pan until golden.
  7. Assemble the burger by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of the bun, followed by a generous portion of the fried okra, tomato slices, and onion slices.
  8. Spread coriander chutney on the top half of the bun, then close the burger.
  9. Serve hot with extra chutney on the side.
