- Potato - 200 grams
- Chickpea flour (besan) - 50 grams
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
- Bread crumbs - 50 grams
- Oil - for shallow frying
- Burger buns - 2
- Cucumber - 1 small, sliced
- Tomato - 1 small, sliced
- Lettuce leaves - 2
- Puffed rice - 30 grams
- Sev (crispy chickpea noodles) - 30 grams
- Chaat masala - 1 teaspoon
- Tamarind chutney - 2 tablespoons
- Coriander chutney - 2 tablespoons
Steps
- Boil the potatoes until soft, then peel and mash them in a bowl.
- Add chickpea flour, chopped onion, green chili, cilantro, cumin powder, salt, and turmeric to the mashed potatoes and mix well.
- Form the mixture into two equal-sized patties and coat each patty with bread crumbs.
- Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry the patties until golden brown on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side.
- While the patties are frying, prepare the bhel mix by combining puffed rice, sev, chaat masala, and a pinch of salt in a bowl.
- Slice the burger buns in half and lightly toast them in a pan or oven.
- Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a fried patty, sliced cucumber, sliced tomato, and a generous spoonful of the bhel mix.
- Drizzle tamarind and coriander chutney over the top, and cover with the top half of the bun.
