Ingredients

  • Potato - 200 grams
  • Chickpea flour (besan) - 50 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Bread crumbs - 50 grams
  • Oil - for shallow frying
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Cucumber - 1 small, sliced
  • Tomato - 1 small, sliced
  • Lettuce leaves - 2
  • Puffed rice - 30 grams
  • Sev (crispy chickpea noodles) - 30 grams
  • Chaat masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Tamarind chutney - 2 tablespoons
  • Coriander chutney - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Boil the potatoes until soft, then peel and mash them in a bowl.
  2. Add chickpea flour, chopped onion, green chili, cilantro, cumin powder, salt, and turmeric to the mashed potatoes and mix well.
  3. Form the mixture into two equal-sized patties and coat each patty with bread crumbs.
  4. Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry the patties until golden brown on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  5. While the patties are frying, prepare the bhel mix by combining puffed rice, sev, chaat masala, and a pinch of salt in a bowl.
  6. Slice the burger buns in half and lightly toast them in a pan or oven.
  7. Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a fried patty, sliced cucumber, sliced tomato, and a generous spoonful of the bhel mix.
  8. Drizzle tamarind and coriander chutney over the top, and cover with the top half of the bun.
  9. Serve immediately with extra chutney and enjoy your Bhel Puri Burger!
