Ingredients
- Whole wheat flour - 100 grams
- Besan (gram flour) - 50 grams
- Coconut (grated, fresh) - 30 grams
- Poppy seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
- Water - as needed
- Oil - 1 tablespoon (for dough) + 2 tablespoons (for frying)
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, besan, 1 tablespoon of oil, and salt. Mix well to form a crumbly texture.
- Gradually add water to form a smooth and stiff dough. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- In another bowl, mix together grated coconut, poppy seeds, cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and grated ginger to form the filling.
- Divide the dough into two equal parts. Roll out each part into a thin circle (about 6 inches in diameter).
- Spread the filling evenly over the rolled dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Carefully roll the dough into a tight cylinder, sealing the edges with a little water.
- Cut the rolled dough into 1-inch pieces to form small rounds.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the bhakarwadi pieces until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Serve warm as a snack with chutney or tea.
