  • Water - 200 ml
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Onion (finely chopped) - 1 small
  • Tomato (finely chopped) - 1 small
  • Green chili (finely chopped) - 1 small
  • Coriander leaves (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons for cooking

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the besan, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin seeds, and salt.
  2. Gradually add water to the dry ingredients while whisking to avoid lumps, creating a smooth batter.
  3. Add the chopped onion, tomato, green chili, and coriander leaves to the batter and mix well.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet or tawa over medium heat and add 1/2 tablespoon of oil.
  5. Pour a ladleful of batter onto the skillet and spread it into a circle, about 6 inches in diameter.
  6. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the edges start to lift and the bottom is golden brown.
  7. Drizzle a little oil on the edges and flip the chilla; cook for another 2-3 minutes until both sides are golden and cooked through.
  8. Repeat the process for the remaining batter, adding more oil as needed.
  9. Serve hot with green chutney or yogurt.
