- Green gram (moong dal) - 1 cup
- Rice - 1/4 cup
- Ginger - 1 inch, grated
- Green chili - 1, chopped
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 1 1/2 cups (for batter)
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Coriander leaves - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Oil - 2 tablespoons (for greasing and drizzling)
- Carrot - 1 small, grated (optional)
- Spinach - 1/2 cup, chopped (optional)
Steps
- Soak the green gram and rice in water for 4-6 hours or overnight.
- Drain the soaked mixture and blend with grated ginger, chopped green chili, cumin seeds, salt, and water until smooth.
- Transfer the batter to a bowl and mix in chopped onion, coriander leaves, and optional ingredients like grated carrot and chopped spinach.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F) and grease a baking dish with oil.
- Pour the batter into the greased baking dish and spread it evenly.
- Drizzle a little oil on top and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing into squares.
- Serve hot with chutney or sambar.
