Ingredients
- Moong dal (split yellow lentils) - 1 cup
- Water - 1.5 cups (for soaking and blending)
- Onion (finely chopped) - 1 small
- Tomato (finely chopped) - 1 small
- Green chili (finely chopped) - 1 (adjust to taste)
- Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander leaves (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Carrot (grated) - 1 small
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Oil - 1 tablespoon (for greasing and drizzling)
- Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Steps
- Rinse the moong dal under running water and soak it in water for at least 2 hours.
- After soaking, drain the water and blend the moong dal with 1.5 cups of fresh water until smooth and slightly thick.
- Transfer the blended dal to a mixing bowl and add chopped onion, tomato, green chili, grated ginger, coriander leaves, grated carrot, cumin powder, salt, and baking powder. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and lightly grease a baking tray with oil.
- Pour a ladleful of the batter onto the baking tray and spread it out into a thin circle, about 5-6 inches in diameter.
- Repeat the process for the remaining batter, leaving space between each chilla on the tray.
- Drizzle a little oil on top of each chilla and bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden and crispy.
- Once done, remove from the oven and let cool slightly before cutting into wedges. Serve warm with chutney or yogurt.
