- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Tomato - 1 medium, diced
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 inch, grated
- Green chili - 1, slit
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Fresh cilantro - for garnish
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Rinse the masoor dal under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed lentils and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the lentils are tender but not mushy.
- In a separate skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chili to the skillet, and sauté for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the diced tomato, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes soften, about 5 minutes.
- Once the lentils are cooked, combine them with the onion-tomato mixture. Stir in the garam masala and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Transfer the lentil mixture to a baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes until the top is slightly crispy.
- Remove from the oven and drizzle with lemon juice. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
