Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour - 1 cup
  • Yellow split peas (toor dal) - 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - 2 cups
  • Oil (for greasing) - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish) - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Rinse the yellow split peas (toor dal) thoroughly and soak them in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. In a pot, add the soaked dal with 2 cups of water, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the dal is soft (about 20 minutes), then mash it slightly and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, cumin seeds, coriander powder, and salt. Gradually add enough water to form a soft dough.
  4. Divide the dough into small balls and roll each ball into thin circles (about 5-6 inches in diameter).
  5. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  6. Spread a thin layer of the cooked and mashed dal on each rolled circle, then fold them into quarters to form a triangle.
  7. Grease a baking dish with oil and place the filled triangles in it. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh coriander leaves, and serve hot.
