Ingredients
- Potatoes (boiled and mashed) - 300 grams
- Green peas (boiled) - 100 grams
- Onion (finely chopped) - 1 medium
- Green chili (finely chopped) - 1
- Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
- Cilantro (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Bread crumbs - 1/2 cup
- Oil (for shallow frying) - 3 tablespoons
- Whole wheat or all-purpose flour tortillas - 2
- Chaat masala - for sprinkling
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Mint chutney - for serving
- Tomato ketchup - for serving
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the boiled and mashed potatoes, boiled green peas, chopped onion, green chili, grated ginger, chopped cilantro, cumin seeds, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix until well combined.
- Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a round patty (tikki).
- Coat each patty with bread crumbs for extra crunch.
- Heat oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the patties in the pan and shallow fry until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Warm the tortillas in a separate pan for about 30 seconds on each side until pliable.
- Place a crispy aloo tikki in the center of each tortilla. Sprinkle with chaat masala and drizzle lemon juice on top.
- Add mint chutney and tomato ketchup to taste, then roll the tortilla tightly around the filling.
- Serve immediately while warm, with extra chutney and ketchup on the side.
