Ingredients
- Potatoes - 300 grams
- Whole wheat flour - 150 grams
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Oil - for frying (approximately 500 ml)
- Water - as needed
Steps
- Boil the potatoes in water until tender, then peel and mash them in a mixing bowl.
- Add cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt to the mashed potatoes and mix well to combine.
- In another bowl, combine whole wheat flour and a pinch of salt. Gradually add water and knead to form a soft, pliable dough. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Divide the potato mixture into equal portions and shape them into small balls.
- Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each portion into a small circle (around 10 cm in diameter).
- Place a potato ball in the center of each rolled dough circle and fold the edges over to seal the filling inside. Gently flatten it to form a disc.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully slide in one puri at a time and fry until golden and puffed, about 1-2 minutes on each side.
- Remove the puris and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite chutney or curry.
