Ingredients

  • Potatoes - 300 grams
  • Chickpea flour (besan) - 2 tablespoons
  • Cilantro (fresh, chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Oil (for frying) - 4 tablespoons
  • Yogurt (dairy-free) - 100 grams
  • Tamarind chutney - 2 tablespoons
  • Chaat masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion (finely chopped) - 1/4 cup
  • Tomato (finely chopped) - 1/4 cup
  • Pomegranate seeds - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Boil the potatoes until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and let them cool slightly.
  2. Peel the potatoes and mash them in a large bowl until smooth.
  3. Add chickpea flour, chopped cilantro, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, salt, black salt, and lemon juice to the mashed potatoes. Mix well until combined.
  4. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a flat patty (tikki).
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the patties in the pan.
  6. Fry the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  7. To serve, place two patties on a plate. Drizzle with yogurt, tamarind chutney, and sprinkle with chaat masala, chopped onions, tomatoes, and pomegranate seeds.
