Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 200 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • All-purpose flour - 1/4 cup
  • Fresh parsley - for garnish
  • Lemon wedges - for serving

Steps

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture by wrapping it in a clean kitchen towel and placing a heavy object on top for about 15 minutes.
  2. Once pressed, cut the tofu into 1 cm thick slices.
  3. In a shallow bowl, mix together the olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Add the tofu slices to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Allow them to marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  5. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little more olive oil if necessary.
  6. Dredge each marinated tofu slice in all-purpose flour, shaking off any excess flour.
  7. Place the tofu slices in the hot skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden and crispy.
  8. Remove the tofu from the skillet and place it on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
  9. Serve the Vegan Saganaki hot, garnished with fresh parsley and alongside lemon wedges.
