Ingredients
- Granulated sugar - 200 grams
- Water - 250 milliliters
- Cornstarch - 50 grams
- Powdered sugar - 50 grams
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Walnuts, chopped - 100 grams
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Food coloring (optional) - a few drops
Steps
- In a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water. Heat over medium heat until the sugar completely dissolves.
- Add the lemon juice and bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with 100 milliliters of water until smooth. Gradually add this mixture to the boiling sugar syrup while stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
- Continue to cook the mixture over low heat, stirring frequently, for about 30-40 minutes until it thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and food coloring, if desired. Fold in the chopped walnuts until evenly distributed.
- Pour the mixture into a greased square baking dish and smooth the top. Allow it to cool at room temperature for at least 4 hours, or until firm.
- Once set, dust the top with powdered sugar and cut into small squares. Serve and enjoy!
