Ingredients

  • Phyllo pastry - 6 sheets
  • Butter (melted) - 50 grams
  • Milk - 250 ml
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Cornstarch - 30 grams
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Eggs - 1 large
  • Cinnamon powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Powdered sugar - for dusting

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth, then heat over medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly before adding the beaten egg. Mix well to combine.
  4. Lay out one sheet of phyllo pastry on a clean, flat surface and brush it with melted butter. Repeat this process with three more sheets, layering them on top of one another.
  5. Pour half of the custard mixture over the layered phyllo and spread it evenly.
  6. Layer two more sheets of phyllo on top, brushing each with butter, then pour the remaining custard mixture and spread it evenly.
  7. Finish with one last layer of phyllo, brushing it generously with butter.
  8. Using a sharp knife, score the top layer into squares or diamond shapes for easy serving.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven, let it cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar and cinnamon before serving.
