Ingredients
- Ground beef (80/20) - 400 grams
- Feta cheese - 100 grams, crumbled
- Egg - 1 large
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Kasseri cheese (or another melting cheese) - 100 grams, sliced
- Romaine lettuce leaves - 4 pieces
- Tomato - 1 medium, sliced
- Red onion - 1/4 medium, thinly sliced
- Cucumber - 1/2 medium, sliced
- Tzatziki sauce - 4 tablespoons
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, crumbled feta cheese, egg, minced garlic, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into burger patties, about 2 cm thick.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the burger patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.
- In the last few minutes of cooking the burgers, add the Kasseri cheese slices on top of each patty and cover the skillet to melt the cheese.
- While the burgers are cooking, prepare the toppings. Arrange the romaine lettuce leaves on plates, and top with sliced tomatoes, red onions, and cucumbers.
- Once the burgers are cooked and the cheese is melted, remove them from the skillet and place each patty on top of the prepared lettuce. Top with tzatziki sauce.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your Saganaki Burger!
