- Warm water - 150 ml
- Active dry yeast - 7 grams
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
Steps
- In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast; let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt; create a well in the center.
- Pour the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil into the well of the flour; mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 250°C (482°F) and place a baking stone or an inverted baking sheet inside to heat.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball; let them rest for 10 minutes.
- Roll out each ball into a flat circle about 5-7 mm thick.
- Carefully place the rolled-out pita onto the hot baking stone or baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes until puffed and lightly browned.
- Remove from the oven and cover with a clean kitchen towel to keep warm before serving.
