Ingredients
- all-purpose flour - 250 grams
- active dry yeast - 7 grams
- warm water - 150 milliliters
- extra virgin olive oil - 50 milliliters
- sea salt - 5 grams
- sugar - 5 grams
Steps
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and sea salt. Make a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture and the olive oil.
- Mix the ingredients together until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, a tablespoon at a time.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into a round loaf or divide it into smaller rolls.
- Place the shaped dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let it rise again for about 15 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with extra virgin olive oil and your choice of toppings.
