Ingredients

  • Octopus - 500 grams, cleaned and cut into pieces
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Carrots - 1 medium, sliced
  • Bay leaves - 2
  • Cinnamon stick - 1
  • Allspice berries - 5
  • Red wine - 100 ml
  • Crushed tomatoes - 200 grams
  • Vegetable broth - 200 ml
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Fresh parsley - for garnish

Steps

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent.
  3. Add the sliced carrots and cook for another 5 minutes until softened.
  4. Stir in the octopus pieces and cook for about 5 minutes until they start to change color.
  5. Add the bay leaves, cinnamon stick, allspice berries, and red wine, allowing it to simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and vegetable broth, and season with salt and black pepper.
  7. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot.
  8. Let it simmer for about 40 minutes, or until the octopus is tender.
  9. Remove the bay leaves and cinnamon stick before serving.
  10. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
