Ingredients

  • Fresh mussels - 500 grams
  • Ouzo - 100 ml
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Shallot - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Cherry tomatoes - 200 grams, halved
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Lemon - 1, juiced
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Rinse the mussels under cold running water, scrubbing the shells to remove any dirt. Discard any mussels that are open and do not close when tapped.
  2. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped shallot, sautéing for 2-3 minutes until fragrant and translucent.
  3. Add the halved cherry tomatoes to the pot and cook for another 3-4 minutes, until they start to soften.
  4. Pour in the ouzo and bring the mixture to a simmer. Allow it to cook for 1-2 minutes to let the alcohol evaporate slightly.
  5. Add the cleaned mussels to the pot, cover, and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mussels have opened up. Discard any mussels that remain closed.
  6. Remove the pot from heat and stir in the lemon juice, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve the mussels hot, drizzled with the sauce from the pot. Enjoy with crusty bread to soak up the flavorful broth.
