Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour - 150 grams
  • semolina - 50 grams
  • baking powder - 1 teaspoon
  • ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • ground cloves - 1/4 teaspoon
  • olive oil - 80 milliliters
  • orange juice - 60 milliliters
  • sugar - 50 grams
  • walnuts, chopped - 30 grams
  • honey - 50 grams
  • water - 100 milliliters
  • extra walnuts for garnish - 10 grams

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, semolina, baking powder, cinnamon, and cloves.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the olive oil, orange juice, and sugar until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. Shape the dough into small oval cookies, about 3-4 cm in length, and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  7. While the cookies are baking, prepare the syrup by combining honey, water, and a cinnamon stick in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and let simmer for 5 minutes.
  8. Once the cookies are out of the oven, immediately dip each cookie in the hot syrup for about 1-2 minutes, then place them on a serving plate.
  9. Sprinkle the chopped walnuts over the cookies for garnish and let cool before serving.
