- Almonds (sliced) - 50 grams
- Water - 150 ml
- Cornstarch - 50 grams
- Sugar - 100 grams
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Powdered sugar (for dusting) - 20 grams
Steps
- In a small saucepan, combine 100 ml of water, sugar, and lemon juice over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
- In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with the remaining 50 ml of water until smooth.
- Once the sugar mixture is boiling, gradually pour in the cornstarch mixture while continuously stirring to avoid lumps.
- Continue to cook the mixture on low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan (about 10-15 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and sliced almonds until well combined.
- Pour the mixture into a greased square dish (about 15x15 cm) and spread it evenly. Allow it to cool at room temperature for at least 4 hours or until set.
- Once set, dust the top with powdered sugar and cut into squares to serve.
