Ingredients

  • Almonds (sliced) - 50 grams
  • Water - 150 ml
  • Cornstarch - 50 grams
  • Sugar - 100 grams
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting) - 20 grams

Steps

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 100 ml of water, sugar, and lemon juice over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with the remaining 50 ml of water until smooth.
  3. Once the sugar mixture is boiling, gradually pour in the cornstarch mixture while continuously stirring to avoid lumps.
  4. Continue to cook the mixture on low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan (about 10-15 minutes).
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and sliced almonds until well combined.
  6. Pour the mixture into a greased square dish (about 15x15 cm) and spread it evenly. Allow it to cool at room temperature for at least 4 hours or until set.
  7. Once set, dust the top with powdered sugar and cut into squares to serve.
