- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Pita bread - 2 pieces
- Tomato - 1 medium, diced
- Cucumber - 1/2 medium, diced
- Red onion - 1/4 medium, thinly sliced
- Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Tzatziki sauce - 4 tablespoons
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper to create a marinade.
- Add the lamb strips to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for better flavor).
- Preheat a grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Remove the marinated lamb from the refrigerator and thread the strips onto skewers (if using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes beforehand).
- Grill the lamb skewers for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned and cooked through.
- While the lamb is grilling, warm the pita bread on the grill for 1-2 minutes on each side until slightly toasted.
- Assemble the gyros by placing grilled lamb strips on each pita, then adding diced tomato, cucumber, red onion, and parsley.
- Drizzle tzatziki sauce generously over the top, fold the pita in half, and enjoy your delicious lamb gyros!
