Ingredients

  • Ground beef - 250 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Onion - 1 small, diced
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
  • Diced tomatoes - 200 grams (canned or fresh)
  • Oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Almond flour - 100 grams (for faux pasta)
  • Eggs - 2 large
  • Heavy cream - 120 ml
  • Parmesan cheese - 50 grams, grated
  • Nutmeg - a pinch

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat and sauté the diced onion until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet, cooking until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, oregano, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper. Let it simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. While the meat sauce simmers, in a separate bowl, mix the almond flour, eggs, and a pinch of salt to form a dough-like consistency.
  7. Spread the almond flour mixture evenly in the bottom of a greased baking dish to form the 'pasta' layer.
  8. Once the meat sauce is ready, layer it over the almond flour base in the baking dish.
  9. In another bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, grated Parmesan cheese, and nutmeg. Pour this creamy mixture evenly over the meat sauce.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
  11. Let it cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
