Ingredients

  • Ground lean beef or lamb - 250 grams
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, finely chopped
  • Fresh mint - 1 tablespoon, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Red onion - 1/4, finely chopped
  • Egg - 1, beaten
  • Whole wheat breadcrumbs - 30 grams
  • Cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Whole grain burger buns - 2
  • Tomato - 1, sliced
  • Cucumber - 1/2, sliced
  • Greek yogurt - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, parsley, mint, garlic, red onion, beaten egg, breadcrumbs, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Mix the ingredients until well combined, then form the mixture into two equal-sized patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and cooked through.
  4. While the patties are cooking, toast the whole grain burger buns on a separate skillet until lightly golden.
  5. Assemble the burgers by placing the cooked keftedes patties on the bottom half of each bun, then top with slices of tomato, cucumber, and a dollop of Greek yogurt.
  6. Cover with the top half of the bun, serve immediately, and enjoy your flavorful Greek-inspired meal.
