Ingredients

  • Pork shoulder - 200 grams, diced
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Allspice - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Honey - 2 tablespoons
  • Water - 200 ml
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Walnuts - 50 grams, chopped
  • Greek yogurt - 100 grams, for serving

Steps

  1. In a pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  2. Add the minced garlic and diced pork shoulder to the pot. Cook until the pork is browned on all sides.
  3. Stir in the cinnamon, allspice, salt, and black pepper. Add the bay leaf and honey, mixing well.
  4. Pour in the water, bring the mixture to a simmer, and cover the pot. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 45 minutes, or until the pork is tender.
  5. Once cooked, remove the bay leaf and stir in the chopped walnuts, cooking for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. Serve the Kavourmas warm, topped with a dollop of Greek yogurt.
