- Chestnuts - 200 grams (cooked and peeled)
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Unsalted butter - 50 grams (melted)
- Phyllo pastry sheets - 4 sheets
- Powdered sugar - for dusting
- Chopped walnuts - 30 grams (optional)
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a mixing bowl, mash the cooked chestnuts until smooth.
- Add sugar, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and chopped walnuts (if using) to the mashed chestnuts, and mix until well combined.
- Lay one sheet of phyllo pastry on a clean surface and brush it lightly with melted butter. Repeat this process with another sheet on top.
- Place a portion of the chestnut filling along one edge of the phyllo pastry, then fold in the sides and roll it tightly to form a log.
- Repeat the process with the remaining phyllo sheets and filling until all are used.
- Place the rolled kastanopita on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the tops with more melted butter and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
- Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
