Ingredients

  • Chestnuts - 200 grams (cooked and peeled)
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Unsalted butter - 50 grams (melted)
  • Phyllo pastry sheets - 4 sheets
  • Powdered sugar - for dusting
  • Chopped walnuts - 30 grams (optional)

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a mixing bowl, mash the cooked chestnuts until smooth.
  3. Add sugar, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and chopped walnuts (if using) to the mashed chestnuts, and mix until well combined.
  4. Lay one sheet of phyllo pastry on a clean surface and brush it lightly with melted butter. Repeat this process with another sheet on top.
  5. Place a portion of the chestnut filling along one edge of the phyllo pastry, then fold in the sides and roll it tightly to form a log.
  6. Repeat the process with the remaining phyllo sheets and filling until all are used.
  7. Place the rolled kastanopita on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Brush the tops with more melted butter and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
  10. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
