Ingredients

  • Phyllo dough - 4 sheets
  • Unsalted butter - 50 grams, melted
  • Walnuts - 100 grams, finely chopped
  • Almonds - 50 grams, finely chopped
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Honey - 2 tablespoons
  • Water - 50 ml
  • Powdered sugar - for dusting

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, chopped almonds, sugar, and cinnamon; mix well.
  3. Take two sheets of phyllo dough and brush them with melted butter. Place one sheet on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  4. Sprinkle a thin layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo sheet.
  5. Repeat the process, alternating layers of phyllo and the nut mixture, until you have used all the mixture, finishing with two sheets of phyllo on top brushed with butter.
  6. Use a sharp knife to score the top layers of phyllo into squares or diamonds for easy serving later.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. While the dessert is baking, prepare a honey syrup by combining water and honey in a small saucepan over low heat until warmed and mixed.
  9. Once the Karpatzouna is baked, remove it from the oven and immediately drizzle the warm honey syrup evenly over the top.
  10. Allow to cool for a few minutes, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
