Ingredients

  • Phyllo pastry - 4 sheets
  • Walnuts - 100 grams, finely chopped
  • Almonds - 50 grams, finely chopped
  • Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Nutmeg - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Maple syrup - 3 tablespoons
  • Coconut oil - 2 tablespoons, melted
  • Powdered sugar - for dusting
  • Water - 50 ml

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped walnuts, almonds, cinnamon, nutmeg, maple syrup, and melted coconut oil. Mix until well combined.
  3. Lay one sheet of phyllo pastry on a clean surface and brush lightly with melted coconut oil. Place another sheet on top and brush with more oil.
  4. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the nut mixture along one edge of the phyllo pastry, then fold in the sides and roll tightly to form a cylinder. Repeat with the remaining sheets and filling.
  5. Place the rolled kalamaki on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with additional melted coconut oil.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
  8. Serve warm or at room temperature, drizzled with a little extra maple syrup if desired.
