Ingredients

  • Gluten-free pasta (like penne) - 200g
  • Ground beef - 250g
  • Onion, finely chopped - 1 medium
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Tomato sauce - 200g
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Eggs - 1 large
  • Milk - 300ml
  • Gluten-free all-purpose flour - 30g
  • Butter - 30g
  • Nutmeg - a pinch
  • Grated cheese (like Parmesan) - 50g

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Cook the gluten-free pasta according to package instructions until al dente, drain, and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned.
  5. Stir in the tomato sauce, oregano, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat and let simmer for about 10 minutes.
  6. In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and whisk in the gluten-free flour to create a roux. Gradually add the milk, whisking continuously until the sauce thickens.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in the egg, nutmeg, and half of the grated cheese until well combined.
  8. In a baking dish, layer half of the cooked pasta, followed by the meat sauce, then the remaining pasta. Pour the béchamel sauce over the top and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
