- Gluten-free pasta (like penne) - 200g
- Ground beef - 250g
- Onion, finely chopped - 1 medium
- Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
- Tomato sauce - 200g
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Eggs - 1 large
- Milk - 300ml
- Gluten-free all-purpose flour - 30g
- Butter - 30g
- Nutmeg - a pinch
- Grated cheese (like Parmesan) - 50g
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Cook the gluten-free pasta according to package instructions until al dente, drain, and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, oregano, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat and let simmer for about 10 minutes.
- In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and whisk in the gluten-free flour to create a roux. Gradually add the milk, whisking continuously until the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in the egg, nutmeg, and half of the grated cheese until well combined.
- In a baking dish, layer half of the cooked pasta, followed by the meat sauce, then the remaining pasta. Pour the béchamel sauce over the top and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
