- Fresh calamari - 300 grams
- All-purpose flour - 100 grams
- Cornstarch - 50 grams
- Egg - 1 large
- Water - 100 ml
- Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 500 ml (for frying)
- Lemon wedges - 2 for serving
- Tzatziki sauce - 100 grams for dipping
Steps
- Clean the calamari by removing the skin and insides, then cut them into rings about 1 cm thick.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- In another bowl, beat the egg and mix in the water.
- Dip each calamari ring into the egg mixture, then coat thoroughly with the flour mixture.
- Heat the olive oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
- Fry the calamari in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
- Remove the fried calamari with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Serve hot with lemon wedges and a side of tzatziki sauce for dipping.
