Ingredients

  • Fava beans (dried) - 100 grams
  • Red onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Fresh dill - 1 tablespoon, chopped
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons (for frying)
  • Bread crumbs - 50 grams
  • Egg - 1 large

Steps

  1. Soak the fava beans in water for at least 8 hours or overnight. Drain and rinse before use.
  2. In a pot, boil the fava beans in fresh water for 20 minutes until tender. Drain well.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, mash the cooked fava beans with a fork or potato masher until smooth.
  4. Add the chopped red onion, minced garlic, parsley, dill, cumin, salt, black pepper, bread crumbs, and egg to the mashed fava beans. Mix until well combined.
  5. Form the mixture into patties, about 5 cm in diameter.
  6. Heat the olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Fry the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
  7. Remove the patties from the skillet and let them drain on paper towels before serving.
