Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 150 grams
  • Water - 75 ml
  • Olive oil - 30 ml
  • Corn starch - 20 grams
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 100 grams
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Chopped walnuts - 50 grams
  • Powdered sugar - for dusting

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, corn starch, and a pinch of salt.
  2. Add the water, olive oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it becomes elastic. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  4. While the dough is resting, prepare the syrup by combining the sugar, lemon juice, and 100 ml of water in a saucepan. Heat over medium until the sugar dissolves, then add the cinnamon. Simmer for 5 minutes and set aside to cool.
  5. After resting, divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece very thinly on a floured surface.
  6. Cut the rolled dough into strips about 5 cm wide and 15 cm long.
  7. Heat a deep pan with oil for frying. Once hot, fry the strips until golden brown on both sides, about 1-2 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  8. While still warm, roll each fried strip into a spiral shape and secure with a toothpick if necessary.
  9. Drizzle the cooled syrup over the warm diples and sprinkle with chopped walnuts and powdered sugar before serving.
