Ingredients
- Green cabbage - 300 grams
- Ground beef - 200 grams
- Onion - 1 small, diced
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Diced tomatoes - 200 grams (canned or fresh)
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Feta cheese - 100 grams, crumbled
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Water - 250 ml
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and add the cabbage leaves. Blanch for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened, then drain and set aside.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion becomes translucent.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- In a baking dish, layer half of the cabbage leaves on the bottom. Pour half of the meat mixture over the cabbage, then sprinkle half of the crumbled feta cheese.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining cabbage, meat mixture, and feta cheese.
- Pour the water around the edges of the casserole to keep it moist.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the top is slightly golden.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
