  • Ground beef - 200 grams
  • Onion - 1 small, diced
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Diced tomatoes - 200 grams (canned or fresh)
  • Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
  • Feta cheese - 100 grams, crumbled
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Water - 250 ml

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and add the cabbage leaves. Blanch for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened, then drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion becomes translucent.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.
  5. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  6. In a baking dish, layer half of the cabbage leaves on the bottom. Pour half of the meat mixture over the cabbage, then sprinkle half of the crumbled feta cheese.
  7. Repeat the layers with the remaining cabbage, meat mixture, and feta cheese.
  8. Pour the water around the edges of the casserole to keep it moist.
  9. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the top is slightly golden.
  10. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
