- Chopped walnuts - 100 grams
- Chopped pistachios - 50 grams
- Brown sugar - 50 grams
- Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Unsalted butter - 75 grams, melted
- Honey - 60 ml
- Water - 60 ml
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (optional)
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a mixing bowl, combine chopped walnuts, chopped pistachios, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well.
- Take one sheet of phyllo dough and brush it with melted butter. Place another sheet on top and brush with butter again.
- Spoon a small amount of the nut mixture along one edge of the phyllo dough, then roll it tightly into a cylinder shape. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
- Place the rolled baklava on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and brush the tops with more melted butter. Sprinkle sesame seeds if using.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
- While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by combining honey, water, and vanilla extract in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil and then simmer for 5 minutes.
