Ingredients

  • Phyllo dough - 200 grams
  • Chopped walnuts - 100 grams
  • Chopped pistachios - 50 grams
  • Brown sugar - 50 grams
  • Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Unsalted butter - 75 grams, melted
  • Honey - 60 ml
  • Water - 60 ml
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (optional)

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine chopped walnuts, chopped pistachios, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well.
  3. Take one sheet of phyllo dough and brush it with melted butter. Place another sheet on top and brush with butter again.
  4. Spoon a small amount of the nut mixture along one edge of the phyllo dough, then roll it tightly into a cylinder shape. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
  5. Place the rolled baklava on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and brush the tops with more melted butter. Sprinkle sesame seeds if using.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
  7. While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by combining honey, water, and vanilla extract in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil and then simmer for 5 minutes.
  8. Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the warm syrup over the rolls, ensuring they are well coated.
  9. Allow the baklava rolls to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
