Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 150 grams
  • Vegan butter - 75 grams
  • Cold water - 3 tablespoons
  • Apples (Granny Smith or similar) - 2 medium
  • Brown sugar - 50 grams
  • Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Almond milk - 2 tablespoons
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and vegan butter. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add the cold water gradually, mixing until a dough forms. Shape into a disc, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. While the dough chills, peel and core the apples, then slice them thinly. In a bowl, toss the apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and maple syrup. Set aside.
  5. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface into a circle about 3mm thick. Carefully transfer it to a tart pan, pressing it into the edges.
  6. Pour the apple mixture into the crust, spreading it evenly. Drizzle the almond milk and vanilla extract over the top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.
