- Thyme - 1 teaspoon, dried
- Nutmeg - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Plant-based cream - 100 milliliters
- Vegan cheese - 50 grams, grated (optional)
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt, then add olive oil and cold water. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for a few minutes until smooth. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- While the dough is chilling, heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic, thyme, nutmeg, salt, and pepper to the onions, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F). Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface into a circle to fit a 9-inch (23 cm) tart pan. Press the dough into the pan and trim the edges.
- Spread the plant-based cream evenly over the dough, then top with the caramelized onion mixture. If using, sprinkle the grated vegan cheese on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
