Ingredients

  • Water - 100 ml
  • Unsalted butter - 50 g
  • All-purpose flour - 60 g
  • Salt - 1/4 tsp
  • Eggs - 2 large
  • Heavy cream - 100 ml
  • Powdered sugar - 15 g
  • Vanilla extract - 1/2 tsp
  • Dark chocolate - 50 g
  • Milk - 1 tbsp

Steps

  1. In a saucepan, combine water and unsalted butter. Heat over medium until the butter melts and the mixture starts to simmer.
  2. Add the flour and salt all at once, stirring vigorously with a wooden spoon until a dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  3. Remove from heat and let the dough cool for a few minutes. Then, add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.
  4. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Using a spoon or a piping bag, pipe small mounds of dough (about the size of a golf ball) onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between them.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up. Do not open the oven door during baking.
  7. While the profiteroles are baking, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  8. Once baked, remove the profiteroles from the oven and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.
  9. Melt the dark chocolate with the milk in a microwave or double boiler until smooth.
  10. Once the profiteroles are cool, cut a small slit in the side of each and fill with the whipped cream using a piping bag.
  11. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the filled profiteroles and serve immediately.
