Ingredients

  • Pasta (spaghetti or penne) - 160 grams
  • Broccoli florets - 200 grams
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Olive oil - 4 tablespoons
  • Red chili flakes - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped

Steps

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
  2. Two minutes before the pasta is done, add the broccoli florets to the pot to blanch them together.
  3. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat and add the minced garlic and red chili flakes, sautéing until the garlic is fragrant but not browned, about 1-2 minutes.
  4. Drain the pasta and broccoli, reserving a little pasta water in case of need, and add them to the skillet with the garlic oil.
  5. Toss everything together, adding salt, black pepper, and lemon juice to taste. If the mixture seems dry, add a splash of reserved pasta water.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped parsley before serving.
