- Onion (chopped) - 1 small
- Red bell pepper (chopped) - 1 medium
- Crushed tomatoes - 400 grams
- Dried thyme - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Fresh basil (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Parmesan cheese (grated) - 30 grams (optional)
Steps
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the gluten-free pasta according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent.
- Add the minced garlic and chopped red bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the pepper softens.
- Add the Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 5-10 minutes.
- Combine the cooked pasta with the sausage mixture in the skillet. Toss well to coat the pasta with the sauce.
- Remove from heat and stir in the fresh basil. Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
