Ingredients

  • Whole wheat pasta - 150 grams
  • Lean ground beef - 200 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Carrot - 1 medium, finely diced
  • Celery - 1 stalk, finely diced
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Canned crushed tomatoes - 400 grams
  • Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
  • Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Dried basil - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Parmesan cheese - 30 grams, grated
  • Fresh parsley - for garnish

Steps

  1. Cook the whole wheat pasta according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery, sautéing for about 5 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Increase the heat to medium-high and add the lean ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, for about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  6. Once the sauce has thickened, combine it with the cooked pasta in the skillet, tossing to coat evenly.
  7. Serve warm, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of fresh parsley for garnish.
