- Pasta (fusilli or penne) - 200 g
- Broccoli florets - 200 g
- Olive oil - 3 tablespoons
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Red pepper flakes - 1/4 teaspoon
- Parmesan cheese (grated) - 50 g
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Fresh parsley (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
Steps
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
- During the last 3 minutes of cooking, add the broccoli florets to the pot with the pasta.
- While the pasta and broccoli are cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes to the skillet, sautéing for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
- Once the pasta and broccoli are done, reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain the rest.
- Add the drained pasta and broccoli to the skillet with the garlic oil, tossing to combine.
- If needed, add reserved pasta water a little at a time to achieve the desired consistency.
- Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice, mixing until well combined.
- Remove from heat and garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
